The Biltmore House Asheville NCLake Lure NC is located
just a half hour away from one of our nation’s most
famous historic homes, The Biltmore House. The
Biltmore House and Gardens are located in nearby
Asheville North Carolina and are one of the area’s
most visited attractions. When you visit the home, which
is more than 110 years old having been built
between the years of 1888 and 1895, you can tour the
250 room, 175,000 square foot building. Carefully
preserved, the Biltmore House North Carolina is a
window into the lavish world of George Washington
Vanderbilt, the son of William Henry Vanderbilt, a
railroad tycoon. Vanderbilt’s family was one of the
richest families at the turn of the century in New
York, and George often visited the Blue Ridge
Mountains near Asheville with his mother for short
trips. Upon falling in the love with the area,
George sought to build a summer home and mountain
escape that would rival that of his siblings' summer estates in Newport, Rhode Island and
Hyde Park New York. In order to accomplish this,
George commissioned architect Richard Morris Hunt
to replicate the summer chateaus and working estates
that were found in Europe, and Vanderbilt’s glorious
Biltmore Estate does just that.
Filled with extravagant décor including Old Master
original paintings from artists such as Renoir,
priceless 16th century tapestries, Napoleon
Bonaparte’s chess set, a grand library filled with
more than 10,000 volumes, an enormous banquet hall
with original 70 foot ceilings, a turn of the
century indoor pool, a bowling alley, and a gym
filled with many priceless antique fitness
equipment, the Biltmore House Asheville NC is a
unique place to tour. Built during the height of the Guilded Age, Biltmore House in Asheville NC is a
spectacular example of the way in which wealthy
families during that time spared no expense. The
Biltmore House NC has a more than three mile
entrance driveway, a working farm at River Bend
Farm, an award winning winery and vineyard, famous
gardens and championship equestrian facilities; and
all of this was a vision of Vanderbilt in the early
1900s! When you visit, you can explore the Biltmore
House and its 8,000 acre estate and enjoy all that
it has to offer. Be sure to plan plenty of time as
this infamous attraction is filled with numerous
