Flat Rock Playhouse North CarolinaJust over the border
from Rutherford County North Carolina in Henderson
County NC is the historic mountain community
of Flat Rock North Carolina. Flat Rock NC has long
been a resort vacation area, much like nearby Lake
Lure NC, only this charming community has its
own Flat Rock Theater, the Flat Rock Playhouse North
Carolina. The Flat Rock Playhouse began more than 70
years ago, when a group of struggling local actors
began to entertain the visiting guests of the hotels and inns. This group began to perform under
the name the Vagabond Players and was led by Robroy
Farquhar. They performed in a 150 year old grist
mill and entertained the thousands of visitors that
so often flocked to the mountains during the years
of WWII and after.
 In 1952 the group purchased land in Flat Rock NC and
began to build a new playhouse. After its
construction, they began to perform in the Flat
Rock Playhouse NC and have since remained there. In
1961 the Flat Rock Theater was officially made the
State Theatre of North Carolina. Famous for its
popular eight month long show season, the Flat Rock
Playhouse community theatre performs all of your
favorite plays including Shakespeare’s greats and
famous comedies and dramas that everyone enjoys. When you live on
