NC. Home to the tallest waterfall east of the
Mississippi River, Hickory Nut Falls, North Carolina
Chimney Rock is one of the most scenic places to

Lake Lure NC in its entirety. Learn more about
Chimney Rock State Park and the luxury Real
Estate Lake Lure NC nearby.
The main attraction at Chimney Rock Park NC is “The
Chimney” which is the 315 foot monolith for which
the park is named. This enormous rocky outcropping
was included in the Chimney Rock NC Real Estate that
Dr. Morse purchased in the early part of the 20th
century when he bought the lands of the Hickory
Nut Gorge and Lake Lure North Carolina. Read more
about this in the History of Lake Lure. In addition
to The Chimney region of Chimney Rock NC, the park
is home to other areas including the
Opera Box, the Skyline Trail, Exclamation Point, The
Outcroppings, and Moonshiner’s Cave. These neat
parts of Chimney Rock Park offer great
views and have legendary tales.
The Opera Box is located on the way up the Skyline
Trail and is a short distance from the views at the
Chimney. A popular resting spot, the Opera Box is
unique in that it offers views of Lake Lure and the
Hickory Nut Gorge from a narrow horizontal opening. At the
beginning of the Skyline Trail, if you look out
above The Chimney, you may notice a unique rock that
is interestingly shaped like The Devil’s Head. This
rock has been called The Devil in North Carolina for
centuries and is often photographed by those
traveling the North Carolina Hiking Trails in the area. It
probably helped shape the name of many of the area’s
North Carolina Hiking Trails, like the Devil’s
Courtyard. The highest point on the Skyline Trail is
Exclamation Point. This area is named so because
once visitors reach the 2,480 summit you can exclaim
“I’ve reached the highest point in Chimney Rock!” as
this point is the pinnacle of the park. The
Outcroppings are a massive jumble of rocks located
in a pile just below the Chimney point. The Pulpit
Rock offers the best view of the Chimney from afar
and the Vista Rock’s new observation deck is a
stunning place to take pictures. Moonshiner’s Cave
is a legendary cave located just below the mountain
that was historically used by illegal bootleggers to
create the infamous brew.
In addition to the scenic North Carolina Hiking
Trails and views from different regions of Chimney
Rock, NC, Chimney Rock North Carolina is home to one
of the most beautiful Western North Carolina
Waterfalls in the region,
Hickory Nut Falls, the
famous 404 foot waterfall that plunges through the
Hickory Nut Gorge. It is also home to an
abundance of wildlife including a group of amazing
Peregrine Falcons. Known for their amazing flying
acrobatics, the falcons had all but disappeared in
the area as late as the 1960s, however recent
efforts to repopulate the birds in the area have
given way to new sightings of Peregrines every year!
